Joy Xu

Joy Xu is an active violin and viola teacher, born in China, where she starts learning the violin at the age of five. Her major teacher includes Prof. Danqing Zhao from Shanghai Music Conservatory. Joy has a great passion for ensemble and orchestra playing. She has exceptional orchestral experience during her studies, this had to lead her numerous trip to perform on concert stage around the world, including the 2003 Vienna International Youth Music Contest in Austria, Australia International Music Festival in 2006 with Shanghai Youth Philharmonic Orchestra; performance with Orchestra of Shanghai Jiao Tong University where Joy played principal viola, at the University of California and the University of Chicago in 2009, as well as casual positions in Auckland Youth Orchestra and Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra.

Joy has moved to New Zealand in 2018, since then, she has been dedicated her time to teaching and performing. Joy has always been inspiring her students with fun and engaging lessons, while her students have outstanding performance in music exams. Joy’s students have been consistently keeping a 100% passing rate in the exams.
